Children... 05/04/2009
Wow. Inspiring, motivating, the light at the end of the tunnel. Moving, touching, heart whrenching even. Kids..helping kids, when their parents wouldn't. We knocked door to door, asking for donations. On a few occasions, the parents would begin to say no, when the child, standing next to them at the door, would either get mad, telling their parent to donate, or run and grab change themselves, holding up one finger and saying "one sec., ill be right back" one little girl said, "dad, dont you care about the kids that are poor?" leading to her fathers donation of a couple dollars. One childs mom, clearly sad that she didn't have change on her, was surprised when her son ran to his room and grabbed his only money, a two dollar bill, the only one we recieved the whole time. It seems the kids are the most interested in what we are doing, and we love that. We hope we can inspire them to make a difference in the world and not give in to this fast paced, winner-take-all society. A special thanks to the little boy who shattered his piggy bank and handed me the little change he had with a smile. CommentsKris / Mom Tue, 05 May 2009 7:07:16 am WOW! I just wanted to post and tell anyone reading this how EXTREMELY proud I am of our boys, thier friends, and everyone involved! For those who are sceptical about this and think they can't do it- I am here to tell you all THEY CAN!! Thier determination to make a change in the lives of these children is so inspiring! From the idea itself, to the website, getting registered, all the legalities, staying up until all hours of the morning planning, and going out on a stormy day (why we didn't have more volunteers!) for hours to collect change. They are AWESOME and Dave and I are so proud of them all! Great Job guys! Were on our way!! Stay strong, stay focused on your education and showing the children how important that is and on your goal of giving to them what they would not have without your help!! Love you all! Mom and Dad!! Opinion of the team Tue, 05 May 2009 10:36:35 pm Thanks mom. I am glad that you are so supportive. However, i would have to disagree with the word choice in your last line. I know what you mean by it and i know it is not in any way meant how some people may take it, but i want everyone to know that we do not think we are better than anyone else and we are not "playing god". We are simply trying to make a change in the way these children live their daily lives and we know that by doing so, we will be as blessed as they are.
