Guatemala's devastation
On May 29, 2010 the Pacaya volcano erupted just 20 miles form Guatemala City, covering the city with 3-4 inches of ash sand. The airport was closed for several days, as the volcano errupted it was beginning to rain. The devastation to follow is unreal. 2 days after Pacaya, tropical storm Agatha hit Guatemala full on. The city was badly affected as the ash sand became like a cement mud, people worked in the rain to clear the streets to avoid the drainage systems being clogged. A large sinkhole appeared in the city and swallowed a 3 story building and a home. Rivers overflowed and houses were pulled into the rushing water. Bridges were destroyed and the people evacuated were left stranded without a way to get accross the rivers. Mudslides started, many people were killed and thousands left homeless. These poor people who had so little are now left with literally the clothes on their backs. They are homeless, have no possesions and are starving.
In the village of Los Robles many of our families have been left with nothing. The crops are destoyed and there is no food. Our hearts go out to them all and our prayers are with them and with those who are able to be there at this time to provide aid. We are currently collecting clothing, shoes, and formula to send down with relief teams to the village! Please contact us if you can help in any way! Please donate if you are able- $40 will provide a family with a home for a month while they work to recover! We are in desperate need of donations to help purchase food and formula for the children of the village! We have 33 babies in the village at this time who need formula! Without donations many of these children will not make it! Our work toward helping this village was important before but now it is critical! We cannot help everyone but we can focus on this village and pray that we will be able to help those families survive this terrible tragedy! We are accepting donations for water purification systems for the families- they are approx. $50 each. These are imparative to the survival of the people as with the flooding comes more desease. Our original plan was to raise funds over the summer for these- they are needed NOW! PLEASE if you can help in any way contact us! Last week a friend who is there said she watched a little boy fill a bottle up with water running down the side of the mud clogged street to drink. NO child should live like this!

We do not have pictures of Los Robles yet as the teams are just getting there due to the airport closure and the bridges being washed out. We will post them as soon as we get them! There is NO aid coming in from the government! There is talk of help in the area but it will be too late for many. This is not on the front page of any newspaper or a top story on any news station- these people have been forgotten!
